I’m pleased that the design of these outfits allowed me to be particularly thrifty/environmentally-friendly. I wanted to capture how I imagined the characters when I read the books, while still evoking enough similarities with the show that the characters were recognizable. Kissed by Fire, A Jon Snow & Ygritte Cosplay Photoset, Part 1 of 2 While we weren’t able to cross the pass to our originally planned location, we stumbled across an equally amazing place to shoot! The weather was perfect, and the heavy snowfall that started right as we were doing Ygritte’s death seemed like fate. Out of focus it doesn’t look too bad! XD These amazing photos were shot by the lovely Giosia Photography in the Cascade Mountains. She even traditionally fletched a couple of the arrows! (Though we didn’t have time to do them all…) I procrastinated on Ygritte’s bow until the last minute, so it was made in about three hours out of scrap EVA, Worbla, duct tape, and leather. All are masterfully painted with acrylic. My sister (our go-to prop-maker) made the bone knife, bronze axe, and arrows out of left-over balsa, insulation foam, and Worbla. I like how the color variation makes it look more natural. Jon’s wig was a free factory sample from Arda–a weird black-to-white ombre–which I dyed, curled, and cut. Boots and gloves for both characters are personal clothing items. The shirt, pants, and cuirass were all stock pieces I borrowed. His cloak is made from hand-me-down black suede and stretch velvet. His tabbard was constructed from black velvet curtains and scrap pleather, and hand-studded. For Jon, I simply sculpted the direwolf pommel from Instamorph, and attached it to the hilt via hidden soda bottle screw tops. I originally designed with it with a modular blade, hilt, and pommel. The base sword for Longclaw is another re-used piece, which I made from insulation foam, balsa and Worbla. I knit the scale-mail gauntlets for a previous costume, and I’m so happy they get another chance to be worn (as a lot of hours went into them). Jon Snow’s all-black aesthetic made re-cycling pieces super easy. SPOILERS through Season 4/ A Storm of Swords Kissed by Fire, A Jon Snow & Ygritte Cosplay Photoset, Part 2 of 2
